Geophagus altifrons "Xingu"
Status within Australia: Present in very limited numbers with some evidence of breeding.
Characteristics: This variant appears to have double lateral barring (two thin parallel bars making up a main lateral bar). Snout shape appears somewhat blunter than other altifrons variants
Comments: We are quite positive this altifrons variant is here. There was a small number (5 at 6cm) sold as such at a shop in Brisbane around 2006. Interestingly a shop in Sydney also advertised this variant in early 2006 (unknown quantity).

The fish pictured here was sold as G. altifrons "Xingu" (there was a pair and several fry).
